About the Author:
Shirley Curtis spent her childhood on an Iowa farm, surrounded by three constants: horses, books, and horse-loving sisters. Her love for reading led her to enjoy books in various places, from her bed to the barn. A writing test success at the age of twelve ignited her dream of becoming a writer. Shirley, a three-time graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature, drew inspiration from her life experiences with horses and her own horse whisperer skills, culminating in her novel “The Horse of Her Own.” Interestingly, she received a Peruvian horse as an anniversary gift after completing the book, coincidentally matching her fictional horse’s color. Although currently residing in Iowa, Shirley fondly remembers her time living in Peru for two and a half years, where she immersed herself in Peruvian Paso horses. She holds dear her family, including her husband Larry, daughter Melanie, son James and his wife Jovanna, daughter Tessa and husband Mike, and their two cherished grandsons.
